More than an oyster painting: bringing coastal memories home

For many of my collectors, oysters are about much more than seafood.

They're tied to memories.

They remind us of long dinners on the river, boats tied up at the dock, family gatherings that stretched well past sunset, and weekends spent chasing the kind of peace that only seems to exist near the water.

That's what I was thinking about when I painted this oyster collection.

At first glance, these oysters may seem like a simple coastal subject. But look a little closer and each one tells a different story. Every shell has its own shape, texture, scars, and history. No two are exactly alike.

In many ways, they're a lot like the people who collect them.

This painting was created for homeowners who want more than something pretty on the wall. They want a home that reflects their life, their memories, and the places they love most.

I can easily imagine this piece hanging in a waterfront home where the rhythm of the Chesapeake Bay is woven into everyday life. The soft blues, layered whites, and organic forms bring a sense of calm while quietly celebrating one of the region's most beloved icons.

One of the things I love most about oyster paintings is their versatility. They feel sophisticated without being formal, coastal without feeling themed, and timeless enough to move with a family through different seasons of life.

The right artwork doesn't just fill a wall.

It reminds you who you are.

It reminds you where you've been.

And sometimes, it reminds you exactly why you chose to build a life by the water.
