Long dinners with people we love. Bare feet, salty air, boats coming home, glasses raised around a table. Somehow the years pass, but certain places stay with us.

I've painted oysters for nearly ten years, and perhaps what has kept me interested all this time is that I've never really painted the same one twice. Every shell carries the evidence of where it has been—years of growth, rough edges, strange little turns, beautiful imperfections.

I take liberties with them, of course. Colors become softer or stranger. Shapes appear that weren't necessarily there when I began. Sometimes an oyster practically paints itself. Other days I swear it's as though I've never painted one before.

Maybe that's why we connect with them. We're a little like that, too.

What Water Remembers is a collection of fifteen original oyster paintings, from intimate 5" × 7" works to large 36" × 48" pieces, painted in quiet coastal blues and neutrals.

This will also be my last collection of oysters for quite a while.

I'm not quite ready to tell you that story yet. But I will.

For now, I hope you'll simply find the one that makes you stop for a moment—the one that somehow reminds you of a place, a person, or a moment in time that you want to keep close.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1396/8693/collections/6C03C588-E56D-456F-BF02-D6AE2BC7AB78_1_105_c.jpg?v=1788884477
